They will evaluate media resources through specific lenses, including gender, race, religion/culture, ability and socio-economics. Simultaneously, students will learn about the science of psychology and gain a deeper understanding into how the human brain works and how we form impressions and preferences. Finally, students will develop their own “cause marketing campaign” to “re-brand” a social issue, and change the way a group or issue is perceived in the media. Their final project will allow them to harness the power of the media to promote messages that are more positive, truthful, and inclusive.
